Equity Statement & Plan July 2016

Equity is the core value for which CASA stands.  Equitable access to resources and opportunity is the means to a healthy and economically vibrant society.   CASA is committed to diversity, inclusion and equity by actively creating and implementing policies and ideas that hold us to our commitment. We acknowledge who is present in our organization, those who are not, and will work to address the disparities. We define equity, diversity and inclusion as follows:

  • Equity - Fair access to the same opportunities for all. It is our awareness of and willingness to address historical and current exclusion. It is our intentional elimination of barriers to fair access and opportunities for all groups and individuals.
  • Diversity - The differences that occur among people.  For CASA, it means embracing the differences, within our organization, and within the communities in which we operate. Our definition of cultural diversity includes race, color, age, geography, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, ethnicity, country of origin, language preference, and other social groups and/or characteristics protected by local law, regulation or ordinance.
  • Inclusion - The act of creating an environment in which all parties can be, and feel welcomed, respected, supported, valued and able fully to participate. We believe that an inclusive workplace makes us a stronger organization and that our effect on the communities we serve is a direct result of our inclusive employees and practices. We respect, value and celebrate the unique points of view and opportunities that come with diversity in our employees, communities, associates, vendors and other partners. CASA expects its leaders to model this behavior in their daily interactions.

In order to achieve a more equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace, we will implement an equity plan that addresses three main areas:

  • Workplace Culture
  • Policies & Procedures
  • Leadership

We recognize that this plan is ever-evolving, and we will seek to update it on a regular basis.  We also know that for our plan to actually work, we will need to advocate for equity beyond the walls of CASA.  The true impact of this plan will be measured by how well we model our work with our partners and the communities in which we work.
