2017 Sister Adele Scholarship Application

Purpose: 
To encourage and provide individuals of farmworker families that live in Oregon with the opportunity to further their academic or technical education. Click here to learn more about Sister Adele

Scholarships Available:

Individual awards will range from $1,000 to $2,000 per scholarship winner. The Sister Adele Scholarship is funded by CASA of Oregon, a private non-profit committed to improving the quality of life of farmworkers and their families.

How to Apply: Applicants must submit a complete Sister Adele Scholarship application online, by e-mail, or by mail. Incomplete applications will be not be considered.

Requirements:

  • Successful candidates must enroll during 2017-2018 academic year in an accredited community college, 4-year college/university or trade school.
  • Applicants must be from a farmworker household.  For clarification, this includes dairy and nursery jobs, as well as working in the processing and/or transporting of agricultural products.
  • Applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) or be pursuing/enrolled in a qualified academic program.
  • No specific GPA is required

Applicants must:

  • Submit a complete Sister Adele Scholarship application,
  • Submit most current high school/college transcript (unoffical or official),
  • Submit a current résumé
  • Submit a Personal Statement which discusses what you hope to accomplish with your education and how it connects with your experiences as an individual from a farm working family.
    Limit your response to one (1) single spaced page maximum. Remember, your Personal Statement should not be a listing of facts, and should explain how a Sister Adele Scholarship would support your pursuit of higher education, and/or technical training.   
  • Submit a Service Project Proposal
    The Service Project Proposal is your chance to explain how you will give back by inspiring others students from farmworker families to pursue higher education and/or vocational training. To help expand the impact of the Sister Adele Scholarship program, all recipients are required to carry out a project during their award year. This project can be done on your home campus or in your local community and must be completed within six months of your award disbursement. All applicants must submit a project proposal which will be closely reviewed during the selection process. Some key points to keep in mind are:
    • Briefly outline your proposed project and explain how will this project impact your home university or home community. What are your project goals?
    • What is your target population and how will your project impact this group?
    • What, if any, campus departments, student organizations, and/or community organizations will you collaborate with in promoting the Sister Adele Scholarship? Have you already made contact with these groups?
    • Upon completion of your project you will be required to submit a one-page final report summarizing the impact of your Service Project. 

Application Deadline:

Applications must be postmarked on or before April 14, 2017. Late applications will not be considered; no exceptions.
Scholarship winners will be notified by the end of June 2017.
