Rudy is a recent transplant to the rainy side of Oregon from sunny Klamath Falls, just north of the California border. Born to two Ducks and great-grandson to another, it seemed natural to become the third generation of his family to attend the University of Oregon, where he wasted no time becoming involved in student activism, volunteering with the Oregon Student Association’s Vote OR Vote campaign by his third day on campus.

Many of his fellow student organizers were Ethnic Studies majors, so he decided to see what it was all about and enrolled in a course. After experiencing shivers listening to a professor’s lecture, he knew the Ethnic Studies department was where he needed to be—there he learned about the ways in which structural inequality are reproduced, how the communities have persevered and thrived, and worked to understand his role in ending injustice. After graduating, he sought work that would allow him to be close to his family and community at a workplace that shares his values and provide an avenue to help others. In his role as Enrollment Specialist, Rudy looks forward to working with a team dedicated to serving communities across the state building assets and securing financial futures.

In his free time, Rudy can be found learning how to drive around Portland, staring at his shelves stuffed full of books he has yet to read, and video-chatting with his dogs back in Klamath.
